Liberia: Lawsuit filed against Salala Rubber following alleged attacks on communities affected by company operations
The Association of Environmental Lawyers of Liberia (Green Advocates) has filed a lawsuit with Weala Magisterial Court in Liberia against Salala Rubber Corporation (SRC) personnel accused of violent attacks against community members and Green Advocates. According to reports, the attacks have led some residents including local activists to flee the area for fear of their lives.
SRC has refrained from providing comments because the case is before the courts.
In June 2020, 22 communities filed a complaint with the IFC's Compliance Advisor Ombudsman against the operations of the SRC in Margibi County (Liberia) alleging land grab, forced eviction, lack of Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC) and loss of livelihood.
