Myanmar: Myanmar Xiang Rui Fashion Garment workers face human rights abuse, incl. threats of assault by management; incl. co. responses
In September 2024, it was reported that workers at Myanmar Xiang Rui Fashion Garment are facing a series of violations, inlcuding mandatory overtime on public holidays and Sundays, the manager threatening to physically assault workers if they don't work overtime, and threats that workers will be proscuted under the Communications Act if they contact relevant organisations about the overtime conditions, physical examination of workers, incuding their underwear, and workers being searched in the toileys, workers denied paid leave if they are sick, the Workplace Coordination Committee failing to solve the problems at work and informing the employers.
In December 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Frasers Group (Lonsdale), LC Waikiki, LPP (for Reserved) and OVS to respond. LPP and OVS responded; Frasers Group and LC Waikiki did not. The responses can be found below.
