Myanmar: Pregnant garment worker denied legally owed maternity leave & benefits, & forced to work overtime; incl. co. responses
In September 2023, it was reported that when a 7-month pregnant worker at Jia Xin (Myanmar) Garment went on medical leave due to sickness for three days, she was verbally abused and humiliated by the supervisor when she returned, and was not allowed to take a lunch break with the other workers until she had met her targets. She has been denied entitled maternity leave and benefits.
In January 2024, the Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Inditex (for its ZARA brand), Fast Retailing (for its GU brand) and Stripe (for its earth, music&ecology brand). Full responses below.
