Snapshot: On 10 January 2024, a local community filed a lawsuit against the renewable energy company Neoen's plan to build a 96-hectare solar farm in Silves at the Loulé County Court in Portugal. The residents contend that the project approval occurred despite an inadequate Environmental Impact Assessment. They are concerned by the lack of community engagement and the environmental impact of the project. They argue that the project's necessity of water usage for panel cleaning can lead to a lack of access to water for the community and that the project will lead to biodiversity loss and potential health risks due to the close proximity of their homes. Neoen declared that it "has done everything by the book". The case is ongoing.
