Since spring 2024, activists who are part of the community organisation OnEstEnsemble in Cameroon faced a criminal complaint initiated by the sugar company Sosucam. The complaint follows actions by OnEstEnsemble, which authorities say are damaging the company. OnEstEnsemble has highlighted allegations of human rights abuses by Sosucam regarding the working conditions at the plantations operated by the company and allegations of environmental pollution. Members of OnEstEnsemble have since faced repeated interrogations by police, with some activists summoned for questioning up to five times. Some of these summonses have not included formal notice. We invited the company to respond; it did not.
