Philippines: Garment workers call on intl brands to facilitate reinstatement following allegations of illegal dismissal at Rainbow 21 factory
According to recent reports, fifty garment workers are owed wages, overtime, severance, holiday pay and social security contributions from the Rainbow 21 factory (formerly Dong Han Philippines Inc) in Imus in the Philippines. The affected workers have filed cases of illegal closure, illegal dismissal and labour rights violations against the factory after it closed during the lockdown.
Workers report that instead of reopening, the factory has since relocated in an attempt to avoid accountability to workers. The workers are calling on global brands and retailers to support them in their efforts to be reinstated. Byer California, By & By and BCX Apparel were publicly named as buyers from Rainbow 21.
In December 2020, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Byer California to respond. It did not. By and By and BCX Apparel could not be contacted.
