Qatar: Legal action launched against oil rig co. Film Ocean after UK worker killed by colleague

In 2022, a UK oil rig worker was killed by a colleague on a Qatar oil rig. Two years afterwards his partner said she did not have answers as to why he had died and the circumstances surrounding his death. She was not recognised as family as she and her partner were unmarried and therefore did not receive information.

A Guardian investigation published in 2025, found conditions on board the oil rig, particularly severely disturbed sleep among the workers, leading to "unusually difficult" conditions, as found in a psychiatric assessment of the worker's killer which concluded “it was most likely Forrest was suffering from an acute psychotic episode … caused by the inability to get sufficient rest and regular sleep for weeks on end, in addition to severe nervous pressure caused by a turbulent work environment”.

The worker's wife is pursuing a civil claim against Film-Ocean, the employing contractor, which has called the death "non work-related".
