Rejoinder from Witness Radio to Swacoff Group's response

Witness Radio seeks to confirm Swacoff Inter-trade Uganda Limited's involvement in the Kapapi evictions, which left over 2,500 people homeless. These evictions were carried out to benefit from compensation linked to the Tilenga feeder pipeline project, part of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) initiative. The affected local communities’ land was surveyed before the forceful evictions, and the land grabbers unlawfully seized it to profit from the compensation intended for the affected communities.

... On February 10, 2023, the land grabbers... evicted the rightful landowners [community of over 2500 people] under the guard of local police and Army personnel.

Shockingly, in a short period, Swacoff claimed compensation for the same 1,030 hectares of land that had been grabbed from the community. Witness Radio's investigations uncovered this, with a letter from Swacoff to Total Energies Limited confirming the company’s pivotal role in the land grab, aiming to benefit from compensation intended for the community... Further investigations revealed that Swacoff allegedly purchased the land in 2008 from individuals... [h]owever, these individuals have never owned the land.

... Swacoff’s response is riddled with contradictions and fails to address the critical issues of illegal evictions, forceful land grabs, and the denial of compensation to rightful landowners. Witness Radio will continue to stand with the affected communities in their fight for justice and restitution.
