Response from Sasol to Mossville Update

"Sasol maintains regular communication with its near neighbors and we pride ourselves on open and honest dialogue with our fenceline community. Through conversations with local officials, community leaders and our near neighbors, we have a proven track record of listening to community needs and collaborating to develop specific programs to address them. And as we have done for decades, we will continue to engage with our neighbors with the shared goal of making Southwest Louisiana a better place to live and work.

With regard to the recent engagement with the Mossville property owners referenced in your inquiry, from the beginning Sasol representatives listened to the feedback from the property owners as they communicated the reasons why the original Voluntary Property Purchase Program did not satisfy their needs or expectations. Sasol clearly communicated to the Mossville property owners that we would evaluate their request the same way we would any other property transaction in order to ensure fairness and equity. However, given the volatile external environment and market conditions, Sasol is currently not pursuing property acquisitions in proximity to its Lake Charles site.

With regard to your claim that residents are exposed to “non-stop pollution and associated cancer risk,” Sasol is committed to responsible environmental management, and we comply with all applicable laws, regulations and reporting requirements. Sasol and the agencies that regulate us have robust safety and management protocols to ensure safe production and handling of our products. In addition, we actively invest in research and product stewardship technologies to protect the health of our communities, going beyond regulations to continuously improve our safety, shipping and handling practices."
