Snapshot: In 2021, two local NGOs (GLSP and GAIA) in Kosovo filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Environment in the Basic Court in Pristina, in which they requested the annulment of water permits for the Brezovica hydro-power plant operated by KelKos. The plaintiffs argued that this project damaged the ecosystem, led to water scarcity for the residents in Shterpce, and that they were not involved in public debates about the project. The Kosovo Court of Appeals ruled that the suspension of the operation is against public interest. In November 2021, the Supreme Court determined that the public would be harmed by the power plant and suspended the water permit. The case is closed.
