Russia: Hostage control of Ukraine's biggest nuclear power plant invokes international concern over possible nuclear crisis
The apprehension of a nuclear emergency has been at the forefront of international concern ever since Russia gained control of Europe's largest nuclear power plant in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine around February 2022.
This concern has heightened this past year as Russia has advanced to restart nuclear reactors at the Zaporizhizhia power plant.
On July 12, 2024 the United Nations adopted a resolution in response to this unprecedented crisis demanding Russia return the power plant to Ukraine.
