Action taken: Pabhoi recently supplied tea to Unilever, according to a supplier list publicly disclosed by Unilever. Unilever provided a response to a request for comment from the Resource Centre. Lipton Teas and Infusions, which took over most of Unilever’s tea business in 2022, was also asked for a response. Lipton said it does not source tea from the estate.

"Assam: Death of Tea Garden Worker Triggers Outrage"
BISWANATH: An accident in the Pabhoi tea estate of Bishwanath triggered an outrage among the people of the region and security forces had to be deployed to defuse the situation.
According to local reports, a worker of the Pabhoi tea estate had perished after he was run over by a tractor. The tractor was being used to collect tea leaves picked by the labours. The victim was identified as Mohan Khadal aged 35 years. The incident had taken place in section number 24 of the tea garden.
After the incident, a large number of people led by the members of the All Assam Tea Students Association (AATSA) raised demands for compensation for the death of the worker. They demanded that an amount of Rs 15 lakhs be paid to the family members of the deceased and to make arrangements for a proper home for them and surrounded the office of the Pabhoi tea estate. Senior officials of Biswanath Police had to come to the venue to diffuse the situation and ensure that peace was restored.
