Bangladesh: Labour leaders & family members of victims pay tribute to workers killed in Tazreen factory fire, demanding justice, rehabilitation for the injured & safe workplaces

"Tazreen fire 10th anniv observed", 24 November 2022

Rights activists and apparel workers leaders demanded justice and compensation for the victims of Tazreen fire marking the 10th anniversary of the incident at Ashulia in the capital on Thursday.

Bangladesh Garment Sramik Samhati organised a rally in front of then Tazreen Fashion where leaders and victims’ family members made the demands, said a press release.

Among others, GSS central president Taslima Akhter, Ashulia unit president Ziadul Islam, central member Babul Hossain and family members of the victims spoke at the event.

They said that the family members of the victims were denied justice even after 10 years of the incident due to time consuming legal procedure and a culture of indemnity.

The speakers demanded justice for the fire incident, rehabilitation of the victims who survived, a safer workplace and a minimum monthly wage of Tk 25,000 for the apparel workers...

The leaders also placed floral wreaths at the victims’ photographs to pay tribute to their memory...
