As co-Director of the film “Late night sunrise” I would like to try to answer some of the points raised in Tom Shrake’s response to the film. Firstly, the general tone of the email suggests the film was simply another propaganda piece made in association with the NGO ADES....This...was an independent production with ADES having no editorial control at any point in the process...I believe the evidence behind the claims made should not be so flippantly dismissed. There are respected professionals backing these points up...Richard Steiner’s February 2010 report, “Gold, Guns and Choice”...is a comprehensive investigation into the conflict in Cabañas...It shows that the points raised in the film are not just based on “relentless misrepresentations”...according to Steiner’s investigation, “Residents of Cabañas report that the violence began and became epidemic just in the past few years, co-incident with the increase in mining exploration activity and the company’s request to move from exploration to development at El Dorado.”...
