Olivia Bisa Tirko, president of the autonomous territorial government of the Chapra Nation in Peru, denounced that she “received threats for confronting [...] the extractivist industry in the Peruvian Amazon” during an interview to Democracy Now.

The defender was in New York for an "Earth Day hearing", during which environmental activists from all around the world gathered to condemn Citibank for being the world’s second-largest funder of coal, oil and gas. Activists blocked the entrances of the global headquarters of Citigroup, asking the bank to stop financing companies in this sector.
