Action taken: Sweden's prosecution service has opened an investigation into workplace violations causing involuntary homicide. The company has issued a statement on its website, saying that the deceased worked for one of its subcontractors. It commented: “This is an incredibly tragic accident and our thoughts go out to those affected, their families and the construction workers who were on the scene. “Currently, we have no indications of deficiencies in our work with work environment and safety. The ongoing investigations will show whether we could have done something differently to prevent the accident.” It added that the elevator that failed was common on Swedish construction sites. It said: “We have continuously received the documentation about the elevator that we must receive according to current regulations. As far as we know, all other routines regarding the elevator were also followed until the accident. “We are also not aware of any indications prior to the accident of deficiencies or problems with the elevator.”

…Five people died after a construction elevator crashed to the ground in a Stockholm suburb, Sweden's prosecution service said Tuesday, as it opened an investigation into workplace violations causing involuntary homicide.
The accident occurred early Monday at a construction site in the northern Stockholm suburb of Sundbyberg, when the elevator suddenly crashed 20 metres (66 feet) to the ground.
The five people in the lift, whose nationalities and identities have yet to be confirmed, were initially determined to be in serious condition but were confirmed dead on Tuesday…
The cause of the accident is not yet known and a technical investigation is underway at the site…
The accident occurred at a construction site for a 14-storey apartment building.
Tomas Kullberg, a spokesman for construction workers' union Byggnads, told Swedish news agency TT that the victims were subcontracted to work on the site.
Some 50 builders were working at the site.
"It is deeply tragic that five people have died, and our thoughts go out to their families," said Kullberg, who added that the workers may have been foreign labourers…
Sweden's prosecution service said in a statement that "the crime classification in the ongoing preliminary investigation is workplace violations causing aggravated involuntary homicide."
