Tapes Show Judicial Misconduct, Chevron Says
Facing a possible $27 billion verdict in a landmark pollution lawsuit in Ecuador, Chevron Corp. released videotapes Monday that the company claims show serious judicial misconduct as well as a possible $3 million bribery scheme related to the case. According to the San Ramon company, the videos prove that the lawsuit's presiding judge has already decided to rule against Chevron, even though he has not issued a verdict…The case seeks to hold Chevron responsible for poisoning the water, soil and people in a corner of the Ecuadoran Amazon.
