UK: Just Eat riders report unsubstantiated dismissals based on auto decision making without right of appeal; incl. co. comment

Worker Info Exchange reviewed dismissal data for 11 delivery riders for Just Eat around the UK, finding workers were automatically terminated following "irregularities" in their digital recording at various stages of pickup and delivery. Some dismissals involved alleged fraudulent behaviour by workers for "undeserved" financial gain, though Worker Info Exchange failed to find any allegation by the company to be adequately substantiated and given that no worker was able to discuss their dismissal cases with management, report that workers' data protection rights were breached.

I didn't receive any warning, nothing directly, they close it, I tried to call and send emails, it didn't solve anything, I was told that I was banned and nothing can be solved anymore. I called several times, several emails but the same result. I can't log in, my account is closed. In 2 years almost 10k deliveries and I was late for 4 orders in 4 different weeks and that's how they closed my account. I was late because there was traffic and many streets were closed and under maintenance, I kept trying to explain this to them and nothing, I was left with a closed account.

In a comment to the Guardian, Just Eat stated their systems surveil potentially fraudulent activity as outlined by the report because "it is important to ensure fairness for all couriers delivering on our behalf".
