Case profile: Amesys lawsuit (re Libya)

The plaintiffs allege the company was complicit in human rights violations perpetrated by the Gaddafi regime in Libya. The complaint asserts that in 2007 Amesys entered into an agreement with the Libyan government to provide communication surveillance equipment to the regime...The complaint further alleges that Amesys assisted in the development and monitoring of a surveillance network which was used by the authorities to identify regime opponents who were allegedly tortured. Amesys confirms that it entered into a contractual agreement with Libyan authorities in 2007 and claims that the equipment provided to the regime does not enable the monitoring of telephone lines...The company is adamant that its activities comply with international, European and French laws.
