German prosecutors investigate FinFisher over allegations of illegal surveillance technology exports to Turkey
In 2019 the Society for Civil Rights (GFF), Reporters Without Borders Germany (RSF Germany), the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) and the blog Netzpolitik.org filed a criminal complaint against the German company FinFisher for exporting the spyware FinSpy to Turkey without an export license. The public prosecutor’s office subsequently opened an investigation on suspicion of violation of the Foreign Trade and Payments Act, and in October 2020 searched about a dozen offices belonging to the Munich-based spyware manufacturer.
On 28 March 2022, the organisations reported that FinFisher had ceased its business operations after the Public Prosecutor's Office Munich seized the company's accounts.
