Kedah Labour Dept probes factory over unpaid wages after riot
The state Labour Department has launched an investigation into a wooden plank manufacturing company in Jabi, Pokok Sena, over allegations of salary arrears involving foreign workers.
The probe follows a riot at the factory on March 11, which went viral on social media. Videos showed workers engaging in violent acts, allegedly due to unpaid wages.
In a statement to the 'New Straits Times' today, the department confirmed it is also investigating claims that the company failed to pay its workers the minimum wage of RM1,700 per month.
"We have taken action following the incident and have recorded statements from the company's director," it said...
Yesterday, it was reported that police are investigating a riot at a factory, which allegedly involved Bangladeshi and Nepali workers.
The incident, which occurred at 12.05pm, reportedly stemmed from a dispute between a group of workers and the factory's supervisors. The case is being probed under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting....
