Pakistan: Plans for Sandvine to build a web monitoring system spark privacy & transparency concerns; co. did not respond

In 2012, Sandvine was one of the five companies that confirmed its intent not to bid for Pakistan’s URL filtration system for censorship, and the company’s stance was celebrated as an example of a business standing up for civic freedoms. In June 2019, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) recently directed the telecom industry to deploy a  technical solution for monitoring, analysing and curbing grey traffic, to be built by Sandvine Technology. Civil society is concerned that this all-encompassing surveillance system of internet traffic will lead to privacy and transparency concerns, especially since no safeguards are envisioned. We invited Sandvine to respond and it did not.
