Statement from Nokia CEO: Values in a time of demonstration & disruption

"Values in a time of demonstration and disruption," 3 June 2020

The events unfolding in the United States show that... there remains too much racism, prejudice and hatred. Too much injustice. Too much discrimination. Too much violence. Nokia’s position is clear: these are things we cannot, that we will not, accept. We feel the heartache of so many of our black colleagues and others who wrongly suffer from discrimination. They need to know that we have their backs... Our core values are respect, renewal, achievement and challenge...

  • Respect means respect for everybody and in having the strength of character to speak up, raise your voice against injustice, and not sit by the sidelines.
  • Renewal means that we are never content accepting the status quo just because things “are the way they are”.
  • Achievement means that we understand that we have an important role to play in making society better and equal.
  • Challenge means that we do not shy away from doing what is right.

... [W]e need to work together to achieve real change.  After all, this is not someone else’s problem; it is all of ours. We don’t pretend to have all the answers, but with our values to guide us, Nokia is committed to doing our part to support equality and inclusion – and, by doing so, to help make the world a better, fairer place.
