Update from Chevron's Annual Shareholder Meeting
On April 25th...a delegation of concerned shareholders and activists at the Chevron Corporation annual stockholder meeting...demand[ed] the company address its human rights responsibilities around the world, particularly in Ecuador's Amazon. As in past years, the meeting was dominated by allegations of human rights abuses and environmental destruction, led by two leaders of indigenous communities in the Ecuadorian Amazon, who confronted CEO David O'Reilly about his company's massive toxic dumping in the region... Mr. O'Reilly declined to comment on the matter while the case was still being heard in Ecuador. However, he denied that Chevron was liable for the contamination. [also refers to Texaco & Unocal (now both part of Chevron)]
