Another Diamond Digger Shot Dead in Cuango [Angola]
[Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Teleservice, Endiama and Sociedade Mineira do Cuango to respond. None of the companies responded] Guards from the private security company Bicuar shot dead Kazimiru Wanga…a diamond digger, on April 20…in the northeast of Angola…[when he] was diving for diamonds on the riverbed…Amado Nduji…was working [with him]…when they were accosted by the group of Bicuar guards. According to his testimony…the very same guards had made an arrangement with the diggers, allowing them to pan for diamonds in that area, in exchange for a percentage of the value of any stones found there…In March 2012, Bicuar took over from another company – Teleservice – to provide security services for Sociedade Mineira do Cuango…[T]he victim’s family and colleagues reported the incident to the National Police in Cafunfo, who arrested seven Bicuar guards. According to information gathered in the area, police authorities released five of the suspects after questioning...In September 2012, another digger was shot dead by Bicuar guards.
