Australia: Aboriginal people accuses Shanghai-based cattle co. for clearing land without prior negotiation
Aboriginal native title holders staged a protest against a cattle company and a major landholder in Australia, Shanghai Zenith, the Australian arm of Shanghai CRED Real Estate Stock Co., Ltd.. The Nyikina Mangala people, holder of native title rights over the disputed area, claims that the company undertook land clearing operations without first negotiating with them. The "unauthorised clearing" caused the destruction of cultural sites, the reports allege. The company entered into an agreement with the native title holders that limits the company's pastoral activities in the area and to first enter into negotiations to ensure that the people's heritage is protected.
Business and Human Rights Resource Centre invited Shanghai CRED Real Estate Stock Co., Ltd. to respond to the allegations. The company did not respond.
