Australia: New "Workplace Justice Visa" pilot for migrants facing exploitation has potential to empower migrants to report issues

In July 2024 the Australian Government launched a two year pilot for an "innovative" visa reform intended to encourage migrant workers facing exploitative working conditions to speak up. This will also include vsa protections for migrants taking action against unscrupulous employers for fear of breaching visa conditions. The Workplace Justice Visa will allow migrants to continue to stay and work in Australia for six months while they pursue a labour claim.
