Brembo's response re due diligence, prevention and remediation to workers
We invited Brembo to respond to the below questions regarding Lifelong Privates supply chain, due diligence, health and safety standards and compensation:
- To confirm that Lifelong Private is within Brembo’s supply chain, including specifying the time frame of your procurement from this facility
- Outline the investigation and due diligence process Brembo has conducted in relation to this incident?
- To confirm the measures taken to ensure adherence to health and safety standards both before and after the incident and outline the corrective actions that have been identified and addressed.
- 4. To confirm that appropriate remedies and compensation are being provided to the affected workers by Brembo? Specifically:
- That compensation is calculated to ensure full reparation, adequate to cover full and long-term needs of family, non-discriminatory and proportional
- That the rest of the promised compensation be disbursed
- That the rest of the families of deceased workers receive the same compensation as the two families who have already received partial payments
- That workers have access to ESI (Employee State Insurance)
Brembos response is as follows:
At Brembo we are committed to excellence, selecting suppliers who meet the highest standards of quality and safety, ensuring reliability at every step. We address any allegations of unethical practices within our supply chain very seriously, and we are deeply concerned about the issue.
Lifelong India is part of Brembo Brake India supply chain, since 2018. Regarding the incident, local authorities were in charge of undertaking and managing the investigation and inspections. Brembo, as third party, was not allowed to have access to the plant.
Brembo has requested an external audit focused on Health & Safety requirements to be completed by the end of 2024. As for remedies and compensation, considering that the affected individuals were employed by Lifelong, Lifelong is responsible for providing them. Brembo will assess the status of these activities during the next audit.
Update: 18th February 2025
After the investigation period (during which no actions by external parties were allowed) and following the Indian Government permission for Lifelong to resume operations, Brembo Brake India proactively conducted further audits on LifeLong.
Brembo Brake India will continue to conduct audits to monitor that the supplier adopts the highest safety standards and requirements.
