Monywa residents have vowed to continue pushing for the release of activist Daw Naw Ohn Hla, who was arrested on August 13 during a protest against the...billion Letpadaung copper mine project. Police arrested 10 women but later released nine after they signed a guarantee to not reoffend...About 300 villagers demonstrated in downtown Monywa, calling for the project to be cancelled, for amendments to the 2008 constitution and for the disbandment of a committee implementing the findings of an investigation commission’s report into the mine project...“We don’t accept any compensation as we totally reject the new contract.
