"Guatemala: Mining in Guatemala: Rights At Risk", Sep 2014

Disputes around mining have been widespread in Guatemala in recent years. Across the country Indigenous peoples and non-Indigenous communities have protested against the installation of mine sites on their lands and near their homes… As this report outlines, communities worried about the impact that mining might have on their human rights have consistently complained that they are not adequately consulted when…[mining] projects are proposed… Many of the high profile mining companies currently operating in Guatemala are subsidiaries of Canadian companies.
