Germany: High number of occupational and environmental accidents at Tesla factory, according to media reports

"'High frequency' of injuries at German Tesla factory included burns and amputation"

Tesla workers at a factory in Germany have reportedly suffered acid burns and injuries that in one case required amputation, raising fears that someone could die on the production line.

Ambulances and rescue helicopters were called out to the carmaker’s Grünheide factory, nearly 250 times last year, according to German media reports.

“This frequency of accidents at work is not normal,” said Dirk Schulze, spokesman for the IG Metall union.

“I am really concerned that at some point someone will be killed.”

Call-outs to the factory, 20 miles south-east of Berlin, included an incident where a 110lb crate fell on a worker’s head, emergency service reports seen by Stern, a German news magazine revealed. [...]

“This is several times more than what is common in other car companies,” said Mr Schulze. [...]

Tesla did not respond to a request from the Telegraph for comment.

Tesla replied to the allegations of environmental pollution also made in the report by "Stern" and admitted that there had been several incidents on the factory site during construction and since the start of the operations, but claimed that none caused environmental damage and that if necessary, corrective measures were implemented.
