In May 2022, hundreds of Careem rideshare drivers in Jordan went on strike to protest their working conditions and to demand clarification on the deduction of commission fees from their pay.

Despite numerous meetings between strikers and company representatives as well as Jordan's Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC), Careem has failed to meet the drivers' demands (as reported by The New Arab).

According to the Union of Captains of Smart Applications, which includes Careem, one of the drivers' main demands is "to reduce the sum deducted by the companies for each trip from 20% to 15%, and to adhere to the LTRC pricing," adding that the company deducts a percentage of workers' pay as a government tax, but the workers are unsure what this tax is.

The BHRRC invited Careem to comment on allegations that the company failed to meet strikers' and drivers' demands, as well as demands for transparency and clarity regarding the deduction of workers' pay. Careem did not respond to our request.
