Keeping international standards and conditions is a necessity for pursuing the Ilisu project in Turkey
The Ilisu Hydro Power Plant Project on the Tigris river, which has been planned by the Turkish government, has been discussed for a while due to possible social, cultural and ecological damages. These are amongst others related to the relocation of inhabitants of some villages, to a partial inundation of archaeological sites by the reservoir as well as to a disturbance of the ecological balance of the area. This is the reason why already two years ago the bidder consortium – including VA TECH HYDRO... - and financial institutions have launched an environmental and social study covering these topics.
