Illegal gold miners invaded, attacked and fired protected Munduruku indigenous lands in the Amazon. They also burned down the house of Maria Leusa Kaba, coordinator of the Munduruku Wakoborum Women's Association, who had already been death threatened. The Articulation of the Indigenous Peoples of Brazil (APIB) stated that they believe that the attack was a reprisal for a police operation to protect indigenous lands, which followed a decision by Brazil’s highest court requiring the government to immediately protect Yanomami and Munduruku Indigenous peoples. The Federal Police stated that the gold miners then tried to invade the local police post and wreck vehicles and helicopters that are being used in an ongoing operation against the miners. Human Rights Watch has condemned the attacks. On March 25th and April 18th, the Munduruku Wakoborum Women's Association had already suffered other similar attacks.
