Myanmar: Workers at Jessie Apparel garment factory report labour rights violations incl. physical abuse & child labour; incl. co. response

In April 2022, it was reported that workers at Jessie Apparel factory were facing a number of violations at the factory, including physical abuse and harassment, threats, unfair dismissals, unpaid overtime, excessive production targets, unfair wage deductions, and repression of an attempted formation of a trade union. The factory also allegedly hired underage children as cheap labour.

Furthermore it was reported that in October 2021, the factory closed for three months without paying workers’ wages and only paid partial compensation (50,000 kyat).
