"UAE revokes license of domestic worker firms for failing to comply with rule"

The UAE cancelled the licenses of two domestic worker recruitment agencies for failing to comply with regulations around employment rights.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) announced the suspension of licenses of Emirates International Centre for Domestic Workers and Al Shamsi Domestic Workers Services, on Friday.

… the government agency said it took action against the agencies “to settle the status of their workers, fulfill their obligations, and pay any fines that were due until the date of license cancellation.”

The two firms reportedly did not implement the rights awarded to domestic helps under the Domestic Workers Law, which safeguards the rights of employers, recruitment agencies, and domestic workers. The state-run WAM news agency further reported that local authorities were notified to take action against the two agencies.

MoHRE said it will “not be lenient in implementing legal procedures against any domestic worker recruitment agency found to be in violation of the law.”

Recruitment of domestic helps are regulated in the UAE, where agencies are required to be licensed and subject to strictly enforced rules around timely pay, living conditions, and more.
