Peru: Government declares state of emergency and violently represses protests against Las Bambas mine

Las Bambas copper mine, located in Peru's Apurímac region, has been at the centre of community protests and opposition for several years. The mine recently halted operations amid escalating protests following government approval of the mine's expansion. The State has once again resorted to a state of emergency, evicting Indigenous protesters peacefully occupying the site, and police repression has left at least nine people injured.
