Peru: Local communities, Las Bambas mine and the government sign agreement to re-initiate dialogue

"TALKS TO RESUME AT LAS BAMBAS", 06 August 2022

...On 3 August, an agreement was signed to re-initiate talks between the Las Bambas mine, the government and local communities in Challhuahuacho, Apurímac. Talks will recommence on 8 August in Cotabambas, Apurímac. Participants will include representatives from the communities of Fuerabamba, Chuicuni, Choaquere and Chila; representatives from Las Bambas; and officials from the Council of Ministers,  the Ministries of International Trade and Tourism, Education, Agricultural Development and Irrigation, Environment, Energy and Mines, as well as from the Ombudsman’s Office (Defensoría del Pueblo).

In the discussions which led up to this agreement, those taking part concurred that local communities would be able to report and discuss their complaints as raised in the recent protests, and that they can raise new points in discussions...
