Brazil: 20 international brands named by Global Witness as major buyers of palm oil from producers linked to alleged human rights violations
In a new report, Global Witness has made a series of accusations against palm oil producers Agropalma and Brasil BioFuels, linking them to episodes of violence, torture, land fraud and a series of other violations of indigenous and quilombola rights.
The report also specified the 20 largest direct and indirect international buyers of these companies.
We invited the 20 companies mentioned to respond.
The responses from AAK, Bunge, Cargill, Danone Hershey, Mars, Nestlé, Olenex Sàrl, PepsiCo, PZ Cussons, Unilever and Upfield are available.
ADM Global, Ferrero, FrieslandCampina, General Mills, Groupe OLVEA, Kellogg, Mondelēz and Stratas Foods did not respond.
Last May, we also invited Brasil Biofuels to comment on accusations made by indigenous and quilombola people about contamination by pesticides, irregular disposal of tailings and fraud in registrations and licenses, and their response is available (in Portuguese).
