Brazil: Coffee supply chain still tainted by slave labour, says report
The organisations Conectas and SOMO have launched the report “Bitter brew: Modern slavery in the coffee industry”. According to the report, “despite repeated promises from coffee multinationals to do better, their supply chains are still riddled with cases of modern slavery”. The coffee sourced from Brazil would be linked to "forced labour, debt bondage, abysmal working conditions, and other forms of exploitation".
We invited the companies mentioned by the report to comment on the allegations.
Responses from JDE, McDonald's, Nestlé, Starbucks, Illycaffè and Neumann Kaffee Gruppe are available.
Dunkin’ Donuts and Cooxupé did not respond.
