Global: Report accuses Bayer of worldwide lobbying for glyphosate market access and greenwashing; incl. co response

In September 2024, Corporate Europe Observatory published a report on its research of Bayer's past and present lobbying practices. They accused Bayer of several misconducts:

  • engaging in lobbying against pesticide reduction targets
  • pushing for the reapproval of glyphosate despite studies about carcinogenic risks
  • allegedly expanding monopoly control through hybrid crops and chemicals
  • allegedly pressuring governments, including Mexico, to abandon glyphosate bans
  • exporting toxic products to countries with weaker regulations

In October 2024, the Business and Human Rights Resource Centre reached out to Bayer AG to respond to the allegations. The response can be read in full below.
