Marks & Spencer's response to allegations of abuses in Myanmar garment factories - Nov 2023 update

As previously informed in November 2022...we concluded that it was impossible for our Global Sourcing Principles to be upheld in Myanmar.

Therefore we began our responsible exit plans in October 2022 and placed no new orders. Our production ceased at the beginning of 2023 and our last orders left Myanmar in April 2023. We have now left Myanmar. As of April 2023, we no longer have any ongoing or future production, nor any trading relationships in Myanmar. The information that we were still producing at the time of the alleged incidents in Myanmar Knitting is incorrect.

We committed to continue to engage with suppliers and external stakeholders, where possible, for a suitable period, to identify, and mitigate if possible any risks to workers due to our withdrawal. However, as we have not had any relationship with this factory for the last 7 months, unfortunately it is not reasonable or possible for us to now investigate and there is no further information we can provide.
