Myanmar: Garment workers report multiple labour rights violations incl. excessive production targets, verbal abuse & unpaid overtime; incl. co. responses
In November 2023, it was reported that workers at Kamcaine MGF (Myanmar) factory faced a series of violations, including forced and unpaid overtime at night, denial of leave, wage cuts if workers miss days of work without reason, excessive production targets with lines that don't meet the target having to pay for it, workers subjected to verbal abuse and intimidation from the supervisors, workers unable to drink water or go to the toilet to meet targets, the hiring of daily wage labourers and unfair payments to workers.
In January 2024, Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Inditex (for its brand ZARA) and Lidl to respond. The responses can be found below.
