Myanmar: Garment workers report multiple workers' rights violations in factory supplying GUESS & Moschino incl. arrests by the military
Workers from Hesheng Myanmar that produc[e] for GUESS...are forced to work overtime until late night almost every night and have to sleep at the factory and go back to their hostels early morning at 4 am. No security for women workers . A woman worker was raped by a motorcycle carry driver. Overtime [is] not paid according to the law. When workers take leave, overtime fee are not included in their salaries. A woman worker who work[s] at the QC department [was] hit by a motorcycle and needed to take medical leave, 50,000 kyats [was deducted] from her salary. The provisional workers are paid only 2700 kyats (1.3 dollar)...The factory exploits workers' wages by deducting 50,000 kyat for one day absence. (The daily wage is 4800 Kyats. but workers received 3600 Kyats only). OT fees are not paid when workers can not come to work on payday. workers have to work long working hours a day and [do] not have time to cook. Factory provide[s] poor food quality and not enough food for workers. Workers are forced to work while they are starving. Factory invited soldiers to [the] factory and allowed them to check workers' mobile phone at the entrance of the factory and ask[ed] to arrest the workers who [were] against the military.
