Myanmar: Telcos allegedly fail to publish warnings for landmines planted by the military around their towers posing severe people safety challenge

A report by Myanmar Now alleged that the “[…] Myanmar military has laid landmines at telecommunications towers owned by or leased to mobile operators […]”. The report also alleged that telecom companies have not published any warnings or details of landmines that have been allegedly planted by the military around their towers, which represent a severe people safety challenge for operations and maintenance staff, and for the communities living around tower sites.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre invited Myanma Post and Telecom (MPT), Ooredoo, Irrawaddy Green Towers Ltd., Apollo Towers Myanmar, OCK Group Berhad (OCK), edotco Group, Telenor Myanmar, Sumitomo Corporation and KDDI for responses.
