Qatar: Workers at engineering co. MBS allege labour abuse incl. non-payment of wages; incl. co response; alleged clients FIFA & Qetaifan provided a response, HIA didn't respond

As part of its ongoing series, Letters to MR, Migrant-Rights.org carried a letter from workers at Meinhardt Bim Studio LLC (MBS) in Qatar who allege that they have not been paid their salaries for three or four months. Despite repeated requests by them to the company and the National Human Rights Commission in Qatar, the delays continue. The workers further alleged that MBS owes 80 employees and former employees a lot of money; most of them have not received their end of service settlement. They said that employees who resigned have been accused by the company of non-performance when they requested their end of service settlement.

The workers said that they have worked at various projects including the Hamad International Airport extension projects, two Qatar World Cup 2022 stadiums (Al Rayyan Stadium and Lusail Stadium Precinct) and Qetaifan Water Park project,

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre Contacted Meinhardt Group for a response; it provided the below response. Migrant-Rights.org have also featured comments from MBS management in response.

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre also contacted MBS clients mentioned in the article. We asked the clients to set out any steps they are taking in response and what due diligence they undertook on MBS before contracting with them. FIFA and Qetaifan Projects have provided the below responses, while Hamad International Airport did not respond. Qetaifan has also provided a letter sent to them from Meinhardt (Singapore) Pte Ltd - Qatar Branch following their request to MBS to provide a response to the raised allegations.

A response from the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, the organisation responsible for delivery of the Qatar World Cup 2022, can also be read on Migrant-Rights.org.
