S. Africa: Takealot raises allegations of tax evasion by Shein and Temu amongst others

Takealot group accuses Shein and Temu of using and taking advantage of loopholes to undercut South African e-commerce companies unfairly. Takealot further alleged that Shein and Temu were exploiting outdated regulations and loopholes by using shipping methods that allow them to offer products at exceptionally low prices while avoiding duties, taxes and other government fees imposed on conventional retailers. We wrote to Shein and Temu asking them to respond to these allegations, they both did not respond.
