Unilever's response
1 April 2021
Unilever Myanmar incorporated its business in 2013 and entered a joint venture with a local company, EAC in 2017. Unilever plays a valuable role in the lives of the people of Myanmar, ensuring that they are able to access everyday household essentials such as soap, toothpaste, laundry powder and soup. We will continue to work hard to serve our consumers, while seeking to ensure a safe working environment for our colleagues and partners in the country.
We have signed the Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business statement, which sets out our commitment to international human rights standards and calls for a swift resolution of the current situation based on dialogue and reconciliation in accordance with the will and interests of the people of Myanmar.
As a responsible company, Unilever has a longstanding commitment to upholding human rights and undertakes regular monitoring of our suppliers’ and other business partners’ adherence to our Responsible Sourcing Policy and Responsible Business Partner Policy, including through on-site audits. We remain committed to our operations in Myanmar especially during these critical times.
