Ecuador: Protest at Chinese Embassy demands action to stop waste dumped from fishing boats

...This Wednesday, July 17, a demonstration was held in front of the Chinese Embassy in Quito, with the aim of demanding that Ambassador Chen Guoyou take action to stop the waste dumped from Chinese fishing boats on the high seas. The protest was organised by Ecoagents, an environmental organisation headed by Fabian Lliguin.
Lliguin reported that although they have requested a meeting with Ambassador Chen, they have received no response. According to his statements, he explained that every seven years around 90 tons of plastic waste is collected in Galapagos, and it is estimated that there are more than 10,000 tons accumulated on the coasts and under the mangroves of the region.
Lliguin warned of the serious threat this pollution poses to Galapagos wildlife, including emblematic species such as flamingos, octopuses and penguins. "They are damaging our jewel," he said, noting that many creatures are in danger of disappearing because of this situation....
