Edeka response to Uyghur forced labour & migrant worker abuse in seafood supply chains

Response from Edeka to the Ocean Outlaw Project investigation into Uyghur forced labour and migrant abuse in seafood supply chains:

As Germany's leading food retailer, we take our social responsibility very seriously and are committed to protecting and respecting human rights. For EDEKA, it is an important concern that the products we trade are produced under ecologically and socially good conditions. We fundamentally distance ourselves from any labor and human rights violations and are very interested in any grievances being brought to our attention in order to investigate them comprehensively.

In this context, we have forwarded the findings of the research association "The Ocean Outlaw Project" to the responsible department in our organisation for further review.

With the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (Lieferkettensorgfaltspflichtengesetz, LkSG), that has been in force in Germany since the beginning of the year, companies are required, among other things, to implement due diligence measures such as risk management with prevention and remediation measures, as well as active complaint management and regular reporting.
